The Alchemist, at Jericho Arts Centre until July 28

Wednesdays are pay-what-you-can.

Presented by Ensemble Theatre Co-Operative —and featuring the worst house sitters one can possibly imagine— Ben Jonson’s “The Alchemist” proudly proclaims the lunacy of greed within all of us.

Out to gain a profit for themselves, Face, Subtle and Dol con the city of London, one by one. Everyone from entrepreneur to Anabaptist abandon judgement for the opportunities of self-indulgence. As homeowner “Lovewit” returns, everyone must face the outcome of their greed-guided ways. These three hucksters will take full advantage of everyone’s blind faith, and turn it into cold-hard cash of their own.
