Claudine Pommier’s film, The Power of Art: Women’s Voices in Africa is being screened in celebration of International Women’s Day. The film is an exploration of how contemporary African women who choose to be professional artists claim their position, and deal with the stereotypes associated with being an African and a woman. It also focuses on the role professional artists may play in addressing the challenges women are faced with on the African continent.

The Power of Art has been broadcast on Bravo! Canada and TV5 World, has been shown at festivals in Canada, the US, Europe and Africa and can be found in libraries at universities across North America.
If you haven’t viewed Claudine Pommier’s photography in her current exhibit, Glimpses of Africa at the Sidney and Gertrude Zack Gallery, don’t miss it. The exhibit runs from March 7 through April 7, 2013.
