Women in Fish: Katzie First Nation Day of Celebration, April 27

Life Along the River

Katzie First Nation Day of Celebration

In Partnership with the Katzie First Nations, the Arts Council is supporting the live performance of Women in Fish produced by urban ink productions.

The story of Women in Fish reveals women’s contributions to what was once a top industry. Little is known about the strong role women played in this industry, from waiting on shore to owning and operating their own vessels, as cannery workers and raising their children on the boats. Women In Fish is part of a special celebration on April 27th at the Simon Pierre longhouse at Katzie First Nation.  It will include displays, a salmon BBQ and the performance and much more.

Saturday, April 27 – 11:00 a.m.

Simon Pierre longhouse – 11:00 a.m.
Opening Ceremony and live performance of Women In Fish from urban ink productions.

Swaneeset longhouse – 1:30 p.m.
Displays and workshops and a Salmon BBQ dinner.

Seating is limited. Please RSVP to Karen at 604-476-2781 or karenp@mract.org.
The performance is free.  The Salmon BBQ dinner is by donation – suggested amount $10.
