Artist, writer, and filmmaker, Richard Fung will present his latest work, Dal Puri Diaspora (2012), an 80 minute film that traces the development of the dal puri roti, a dish that originated in eastern India, then traveled with South Asian and Caribbean diasporas to Canada. The filmmaker will then be joined by Dr. Sneja Gunew (Professor, University of British Columbia’s Department of English and Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice), and Michelle Jacques (Chief Curator, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria) in a post-screening conversation. The afternoon will conclude with a workshop on dal puri roti.

About Spur

The Literary Review of Canada and Diaspora Dialogues are pleased to launch Spur, Canada’s first national festival of politics, art and ideas.

Spur is an annual festival designed to engage Canadians in a feisty, nation-wide search for ways forward on the most current of issues. It is multi-partisan, forward-looking and solutions-oriented—spurring ideas into action.
